Art Attack with Pastel

So far we have learnt about using pencil, where the features on our faces are placed and have practiced sketching and shading.
Now we are learning about pastels.

Some of the children from Ako Ngatahi came and showed us their Pop Art self-portraits in ink. We were very impressed by the focus and stages that they went through to create such detailed portraits.
We knew our self-portraits would be just as impressive if we took our time and showed excellence.

To create our self-portraits we coloured over printed photos of ourselves. We started by outlining the largest blocks of colour like our hair or skin. The we coloured it in. We added details and shadows to our face by blending in another colour. Finally, we chose a bright colour to fill in our background.
