Getting ready for our Extravaganza in Room 7

Room 7 is performing a piece about WW1. We have been learning about the solders going to war from New Zealand, and the hardships they faced in the trenches.  Aside from the sadness of WW1, the children have really enjoyed creating props for our show and dressing up in clothing of the 1900s.

Giant clocks and other fun with TIME

We have been having fun with giant clocks (and normal size ones too!). We even have some old digital alarm clocks Mr Roberts gave us when clearing out his old office. We are learning to order activities we do during the day on a timeline and to show the times on a clock. We even had a Team 'Kahoot' quiz about time which was fun but very loud and exciting!

Team 2 Technology -Paper making in Room 7

We have had to solve problems along the way to making our paper.
We used old picture frames and had to stretch the shade cloth net as tight as we could and staple it to the picture frames.
We discovered that only newspaper mushed up into a nice paper pulp to dip our frames into. Coloured paper and even white treated paper would not blend into a suitable watery pulp.
We are now having fun trying adding extras like small leaves and flower petals to our paper during the process. We are also enjoying making our paper into usable objects such as notebooks and gift cards.

Hikers Big Day Out - Term 2

Last Tuesday all the classes in the junior school went for a trip to the Botanical Gardens.
It was so much fun to go together with all our friends.
We spent some time exploring the autumn leaves, collecting treasures for our scavenger hunt, making leaf boats, playing in the giant tree and playing on the playground.
Thank you to all the parents who helped out and came too!

Starting of Sandpit Term

In sandpit term all the teachers and students get to learn and create in a metaphorical sandpit. This means we can teach and learn about the things that excite the children and be creative with our learning process.

Today was the start of our sandpit term where the children were introduced to their Technology topic. (technology got the most votes)
We researched two key questions in pairs on an ipad.

Keep checking our blog to find out what our exciting subject is!

More Statistics

Miss Clifford explained to us how to turn our data we collected in our pictographs into bar graphs.
Here are some more photos of us using cubes to make our bar graphs.
Ryan found that by linking all the bars together he could turn his block bar graph into a line graph.

Statistics in Team 2

In Rooms 6 and 7 (Team 2), we have been using statistics to find out about the children in our class.
We have been collecting data (information) , counting data and comparing this new information.

We have been making graphs and pictograms, then making comments and statements about what we find out.  We found out  that 18 children have brown eyes in our Team, while only 2 have blue eyes.

We also counted and compared the number of boys and girls in each room, making bar graphs to represent this.
